Brotherhood Of Evil: The Mafia - Frederic Sondern Jr
Brotherhood Of Evil: The Mafia - Frederic Sondern Jr
A crimefile of that two hundred year old organization which has control of both narcotics and gambling in the U.S. to which it emigrated, which has totted up an annual illegal intake of a billion dollars, is synonymous to a great extent with the history of racketeering in the current century.
The brotherhood, as much a philosophy as a society, sort of a family business, spread to America in 1880 and its annals feature its most successful figures:- Alphene Capone, the mastermind, whose days were numbered by the figures on a tax form; Lucky Luciano, who had as relentless a pursuant in Harry Anslinger, commissioner of the Bureau of Narcotics; those prominent in Murder Inc., one of the worst imports; etc., etc.
What this chronology makes sure to point out is that while the Kfauver Committee accomplished a little, there is still a great deal to be done to bring to book the Mafiosi who have evaded prosecution so far. We need to continue a tightening offensive and put some teeth both into the law and into investigation procedures... A hardhitting account.
