Letters To The Happy Hooker - Xaviera Hollander
Letters To The Happy Hooker - Xaviera Hollander
Xaviera Hollander born 15 June 1943 is a Dutch former call girl, madam and author. In 1968 she resigned from her job as a secretary in the Dutch consulate in Manhattan to become a call girl, making $1,000 a night ($7800 today).
A year later, she opened her own brothel, the Vertical Whorehouse, and soon became New York City's leading madam. In 1971, she was arrested for prostitution by New York Police and forced to leave the United States.
Are you curious about the many letters she received, and what happened right after her deportment (she ended up in Canada, where, presumably, this book was written).
Well, this book answers all these questions. Most of this book is a fascinating collection of letters she received during her fame as the Happy Hooker. Note that there are 3 or 4 erotic stories by Hollander, but these occupy at most a dozen pages in the book. However, the letters themselves are revelatory.
Hollander has chosen those letters that detail how her frank story telling of sexuality has changed the life of the letter writers, and perhaps, how she changed the sexuality of a generation.
