A serial killer is at large in the streets of North London. His victims are always sixteen-year-old girls, horribly mutilated.

Sarah Keane, recently widowed and having to support her twin sons and teenage daughter, has taken up her old job as a reporter on the local Gazette. But times have changed. She now finds herself working with the police, as the murderer likes to call the paper to boast of each new, horrific death.
