"Anthem" is a dystopian novella written by Ayn Rand and first published in 1938. Rand was a Russian-American writer and philosopher, best known for her influential novels "Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead", as well as her philosophy of Objectivism.
"Anthem" is set in a future totalitarian society in which individualism is completely suppressed and the use of the word "I" is forbidden. The story follows the character of Equality 7-2521, who begins to question the society's collectivist values and begins to explore his own individuality and creativity.
The novella is a powerful critique of collectivism and an affirmation of the value of individualism and personal freedom. It has been widely read and celebrated for its themes of individualism, independence, and self-discovery.
