February 1999’s Big Brother features Mike Rafter and Mike York interviews, a trip to the MTV S&M Festival, a Skate Watch review and plenty of skate coverage, including skate flicks and a Burnside Halloween feature. There’s also a skate park review and the usual Goddamn AMs, with the issue digging into the stranger corners of skate culture along the way.

The non-skate material is especially good here, with Aggressive Street Dancing, Mall Art, Free Lunch, Deftones, Blind Pigs, CD reviews and the ever-present Dear Swaziland. Add Last Call and the magazine’s wonderfully abrasive presentation, and this is a very solid snapshot of Big Brother at the tail end of the ’90s, when the skate coverage and bizarre cultural detours were happily fighting for space.
