Issue #44, January 1998
January 1998’s Big Brother puts Chad Muska front and centre, with the issue following him through Las Vegas during the filming of his upcoming “donkeymentary.” The skateboarding side includes a Portland feature, the Hook-Ups Tour, skating coverage and a review of Soap Shoes, while the magazine also digs into The Muska Documentary. The music section heads into hard rock territory with AC/DC, Flogging Molly and Voodoo Glow Skulls, alongside the regular CD reviews and the ever-reliable Who Fucking Cares.
The Extra Crap section is where things get particularly weird, with Dave’s Field Trip, Heaven on a Stick, Scientology, Winnie the Poo, Black Metal, Dark Funeral, Melvins, Zeke and Drain. A pretty perfect snapshot of Big Brother in 1998: Muska skating, hotel balconies, Soap Shoes, heavy music and a contents page that clearly has no intention of behaving itself.
