Big Brother 84

Big Brother Issue #84 (May 2002) balances major skate coverage with the magazine's trademark blend of satire, music, road-trip chaos and offbeat journalism. Equal parts skate magazine and cultural free-for-all, it captures the irreverent spirit that made Big Brother one of the most influential publications of its era.

The issue features interviews with Paul Machnau and legendary freestyle innovator Todd Falcon, alongside extensive coverage of the Girl Skateboards Tour, the Millenium Tour and the Tampa Am contest. The regular mix of News, Skatepark Review, Potpourri, Goddamn Ams, Skate Dolls and The Crown rounds out a strong skate-focused issue, with plenty of photography documenting the era's emerging talent and road-trip antics.

Away from skateboarding, the magazine expands into music with interviews featuring RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan and Australian grindcore band Blood Duster, continuing Big Brother's habit of mixing underground music with skate culture. Filled with Dave Carnie's absurd editorial voice, outrageous humour and candid behind-the-scenes stories, Issue #84 remains a snapshot of early 2000s skateboarding at its funniest, most chaotic and least predictable.
