One of Brad Pitt's earliest screen appearances, Cutting Class is a gleefully offbeat late '80s slasher that blends high school comedy with murder mystery and plenty of tongue-in-cheek violence. Set at Wurley High, the body count starts climbing after a troubled student returns from a psychiatric hospital, leaving everyone guessing who's behind the killings. Pitt plays Dwight Ingalls, the charismatic bad boy whose unpredictable behaviour makes him an obvious suspect, even as the film delights in throwing red herrings at every turn.
Released in 1989, Cutting Class has built a cult following thanks to its strange mix of teen comedy, horror and camp, plus the novelty of seeing a pre-superstar Brad Pitt in one of his first substantial roles. Equal parts goofy and gory, it's an entertaining slice of late VHS-era horror that has only become more enjoyable with age.
