David Sedaris - The Land and Its People

The Land and Its People is David Sedaris doing what he does best: travelling, aging, worrying about other people, worrying about himself, and finding something ridiculous in almost everything. These essays move from caring for his partner Hugh after hip surgery and attempting to communicate with a Duolingo bot to trips through Guatemala, Vatican City and Kenya, along with the usual assortment of strange encounters, eccentric friends and family complications. There’s plenty of mortality and loss here, but Sedaris has little interest in becoming solemn about it. Instead, he notices the absurd details, the petty irritations and the occasional glorious bit of human weirdness.
