Finnish contemporary artist EGS stands among the most acclaimed of his generation. One of Scandinavia’s earliest and most influential graffiti-rooted artists, he held a major solo exhibition at Helsinki’s Kunsthalle in 2018, followed by a show at The Finnish Glass Museum in 2020.
Working within his own visual language, EGS builds an entire universe from just three letters — E, G, and S. Whether expressed through fluid, energetic ink drawings or intricate, unpredictable glass sculptures, these letters form the foundation of his artistic storytelling.
Even as his works appear in museums and galleries around the world, EGS continues to paint graffiti on the streets across continents. He has become a central figure in the international graffiti scene — admired not only for his distinctive style but for the intellectual and conceptual depth that runs through his entire body of work.
In Writing Stories with Three Letters, author Tobias Barenthin Lindblad explores EGS’ creative practice both inside the studio and out in the streets. Their dialogue examines the tension and exchange between materials, methods, and environments — from glassblowing to graffiti, from abandoned factories to curated gallery spaces. The book raises profound questions about artistic process and meaning: How does the spontaneity of street art translate into studio work? Can form alone carry a message, even without words?
A deep dive into creativity, experimentation, and the philosophy of making art, this book captures the essence of one of Scandinavia’s most fascinating modern artists.
“EGS has grown from a graffiti adventurer to a multi-disciplinary artist whose work breaks convention and delivers beauty in the most unexpected ways.”
