I'd Rather Own A Jpeg - Tristan Ceddia
In his own words "As a designer in the year 2012, my job requires me to spend too much time in front of the screen. I deal in pixels, and I sit and sift through billions of these tiny coloured boxes each day.
Back in 2010 I made a small saddle-stitched book titled I'd rather own a jpeg. The title pointed to the way I had begun to edit my wants into two categories: real or digital. Did I have to have something, or would I be just as happy to own an image of it? As images began to amass on my hard drive, it dawned on me that I was creating my own digital paradise, a sanctuary of reference images suited exactly to my taste."
Tristan Ceddia, is the creative director of Never Now, a graphic design studio, established in Melbourne in 2006.
The Serps (also known as The Serpents) was forged during the summer of 2005 by now sober friends, Tristan Ceddia and Brendan Huntley. The original agenda was simple - to establish a platform through which friends could connect and work across creative projects. Based in Melbourne, Australia, The Serps now have around 30 members within their ranks.
Recruiting from coast to coast in Australia, membership stretches as far as San Francisco, Tokyo and New Zealand. The crew includes people from all walks, including photographers, literary masters, musicians, athletes, fine artists, tattooists, graphic designers, career criminals, graffiti writers, kitchen hands, a-grade students, high school teachers, BBQ specialists, bus drivers, home owners, and competitive cyclists.
