Juxtapoz Street Art Special – Summer 2004 was a landmark issue — a snapshot of when street art was exploding from alleys and train yards into galleries and global consciousness. This special edition stripped away the gloss and focused on the raw, hand-sprayed pulse of the movement.
The issue features Twist (Barry McGee), Swoon, KAWS, DOZE, Fafi and other icons who were turning walls into storytelling canvases. There’s a heavy dose of wheatpaste, stencil, and sticker culture, plus photo spreads that capture the grime, humor, and urgency of early-2000s urban expression.
What makes it special is the timing — this was before the art world fully embraced street art. Juxtapoz treated it as a revolution, not a fad. The layouts are packed with murals, subway shots, and manifesto-like commentary about reclaiming public space.
It’s one of the most collectible and culturally charged Juxtapoz issues — a bold, full-color love letter to the moment when street art stopped whispering and started shouting.
