Nike SB x Fast Times Dunk Zine documents the deep connection between Melbourne skateboarding, music and underground culture through the history surrounding the 2015 Nike SB x Fast Times Dunk collaboration. The text traces skateboarding’s arrival in Melbourne during the 1970s, when the city’s fringe art and music scenes were already thriving, and follows its evolution through the rock-and-roll-fuelled 1980s, the street skating explosion of the 1990s and into the modern era. At the centre of the story is Fast Times Skateboarding, positioned as the beating heart of Melbourne skate culture and a vital gathering point for generations of local skaters. The collaboration itself fused the aesthetics of classic 1980s Nike dunks with the outsider attitude shared by skaters, punks and musicians who helped shape the city’s identity.
The zine doubles as a visual archive of Australian skateboarding history, packed with photography spanning more than two decades. Featured throughout are iconic skaters including Lewis Marnell, Dustin Dollin, Tas Pappas, Shane O'Neill, Nick Boserio, Mark Gonzales, Jake Duncombe, Callum Paul and Jack Kirk, photographed by legendary contributors including Jesse Featherstone, Andrew Mapstone, Greg Stewart, Jake Darwen and Jason Morey. From Swanston Street sessions and bluestone street spots to raw portraits and historic action shots, the publication captures Melbourne skateboarding as both a subculture and living archive, showing how deeply skating became woven into the creative identity of the city itself.
