Private is a photography book that looks like a stash of stolen paparazzi shots, but every image is a carefully staged fake. Alison Jackson uses uncanny celebrity lookalikes to show “private” moments with figures like royals, presidents and pop stars, catching them on toilets, in bedrooms, arguing, flirting, or behaving badly. The pictures are lit and framed like tabloid scoops, so at first glance they feel absolutely real, then slowly tip over into something too outrageous, too perfect, or too knowing to be genuine.
