It's Just Not Cricket is the debut release from Billy Birmingham's legendary comedy persona, The 12th Man. Originally issued in 1984 as a two-part single, it parodies a fictional one-day cricket match between Australia and Pakistan through brilliantly observed impressions of the Channel Nine commentary team, including Richie Benaud, Bill Lawry, Tony Greig and Ian Chappell. Packed with quick-fire wordplay, outrageous player names and affectionate satire of Australian cricket broadcasting, it became an unexpected chart-topping hit and launched one of Australia's most successful comedy franchises.
As a product of its era, the recording also contains language and cultural stereotypes that reflect the attitudes of the time and may be considered offensive or insensitive by today's standards.
