Primal Screams delivers a full blast of mid-’90s alt-culture, folding tattoos, fetish, performance art and body modification into one loud, chaotic, hyper-visual issue. The features run from fetish-ball photo stories and surreal character pieces to artist spotlights and scene reportage: Ben Matthews & Amy Carroll in “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Fetish Ball,” Darin Lones’ “Fairy Tale Friends,” and Cindy the Psynner’s trippy, kaleidoscopic world. Body branding appears in “Playing With Fire,” while The Black Garter Go-Go-Rama introduces a strip-club slice of tattoo nightlife. Artist-focused sections include Sean Vasquez’s colour-rich tattoo work, Mulysa Guerriero’s “Magical Mademoiselle,” David Coleman, Michelle Lewis, and a full interview with Guy Aitchison titled “Break On Through to the Other Side.”
The issue also dips into Mehandi/henna as modern body art, recaps the 1994 Ink-Credible Tattoo Convention, and spotlights subcultures like the Phantom Coaches Hearse Club.
