Wired World of Sports is Billy Birmingham's follow up LP Twelfth Man album, released in 1987. Expanding beyond the cricket commentary that made his 1984 hit single It's Just Not Cricket a sensation, the album spoofs Australian television sport through uncanny impressions of personalities including Richie Benaud, Ian Chappell, Darrell Eastlake, Mike Gibson, Jack Gibson, Lou Richards, Murray Walker, Ken Callander and John Tapp. Blending cricket, rugby league, horse racing and motorsport with rapid-fire sketches and behind-the-scenes chaos, it became a No. 1 album and won the 1988 ARIA Award for Best Comedy Release.
As a product of its era, the recording also contains language and cultural stereotypes that reflect the attitudes of the time and may be considered offensive or insensitive by today's standards.
